Johannesburg, 2 February 2016. – A new training program has just been launched for individuals who want to become Funding Experts. The course will enable them to guide and assist companies secure funding for growth and expansion.
The ‘Funding Expert Training Programme’ was launched by Funding Connection, which has identified a significant challenge in the funding sector. Funding Connection owner, Dagmar Breiling, who has worked as a Funding Strategist in SA for more than five years and has over 20 years of international business experience, now aims to create a network of Funding Experts to meet this need. She will mentor and nurture the students creating successful businesses in the sector. Ultimately the service they provide will make a big difference to businesses and the South African economy.
Every year more than R25-billion is available from the funding institutions as grants, loans and incentives to companies in South Africa. Unfortunately, most applications to the funding agencies are declined.
Breiling explains: “On the one side are the accounting firms and people who draw up business plans, most often with very limited knowledge of the criteria and requirements of the funding institutions. And on the other side are the funding institutions, each with their own criteria and application process. Each funding agency only represents their own programmes, and there are very few experts in-between who have a ‘bird’s eye view’ of the sector. There are hardly any individuals who take the time to understand all the agencies and their different programmes and criteria so that they can accurately advise companies looking for funding.”
Organisations like The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Empowerment Fund (NEF), and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) are there to assist South African entrepreneurs, yet very few companies have the time or capacity to survey the entire funding landscape. Historically, this has been the key service offering by Funding Connection. Now this opportunity is available for others to become Funding Experts to guide and assist companies in the process.
Breiling says: “From what I’ve seen in this industry there’s definitely an opportunity for more people to enter this space and make a difference. I believe in collaboration over competition, and believe together we can create a force for positive change.”
The “Funding Expert Training Programme”, developed by Breiling and her colleagues, is a nine-module online course, designed to teach participants everything they need to know about this sector and how to go about setting up their businesses. Interested entrepreneurs will be happy to know that there are still a few spaces open. More information about the program is available here.
